SAGC obtained the first prize of Shanghai Scientific and Technological Progress Award
Date:2006-6-27 Form:

the project "Study on the germplasm evaluation, innovation and new variety breeding of water-saving and drought resistant rice" presided by SAGC(Shanghai Agrobiological Gene Center) obtained the first prize of Shanghai Scientific and Technological Progress Award in 2005.

By the project, the gradient identification method of soil water has been proposed, the identification equipments and technological system plant drought resistance has also been established which can perform the the entirely growth period drought resistance for large-size plant colony.

Form nearly one thousand varieties of some drought resistance properties, germplasm resources with evident water-saving and high drought resistance had been selected in the variety innovation and heredity material development and exploitation. A set of materials having evidently improved integrated characters, in which the national first excellent variety "Zhonghan the first" is included, had been obtained through crossbreeding and line selecting. And the recombinant inbred line and the isogenic introgression line that innovatively developed by this project had already been applied successively in the researches of drought resistance heredity and the location of drought resistance gene( QTL). The project had also established the breeding network of drought resistant rice all over the country.

The project had bred out "Zhonghan the third" and "Huhan the third", having past the national new cultivar registration, and "Huhan the seventh", which having past the Shanghai cultivar registration. In the water-saving and drought resistant demonstration at Shanghai Jianding District, Qingpu District, and Chongmin District, the three new rice varieties got higher yields and at the same time saved water 50 percent.
